Place-based education is a positive and creative way to connect schools to their communities, and to counter the decoupling of schools from historic sites, local landscapes, and farms. What we need are schools organized around the principles of the farmers’ market, drawing on the resources and variety of the local community.

Speaker David Sobel, author of Place-based Education: Connecting Classrooms and Communities and Communities and Childhood and Nature, will introduce examples of place-based education from the US, Canada and Europe to illustrate innovative initiatives from preschool through high school settings.
