St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences: March Break Camp

March 14, 2016 - March 18, 2016

River Institute Tackles March Break Boredom by Mixing Science into the Great Outdoors

CORNWALL, ON.  – The St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences is tackling March Break boredom with a week full of natural fun and learning at Cooper Marsh Visitor and Education Centre in South Lancaster.  From March 14th to the 18th, this unique day camp will provide children, aged 6 to 11, with hands on opportunities to experience science and nature up close and personal.  Campers have the option of choosing to sign up for individual daily themed sessions or they can register for an entire week of non-stop fun and discovery.

Cristina Charette, Education Programmer at the River Institute says, “It is all about combining nature, science, and discovery in the great outdoors.  Each day is a brand new adventure with activities led by local scientists and naturalists”.  She adds, “Cooper Marsh with its wonderful Visitor Centre is just the perfect venue for this Camp.”

  • March 14th –  Mad Scientist

Future biologists, chemists, and ecologists are invited to become mad scientists for a day by conducting experiments that are non-stop fun as well as educational.

  • March 15th –  Planet Protectors

Planet earth needs protecting. Campers find out all about reducing, re-using, recycling, and composting as well as learn all about the plants and animals in Ontario that need our protection.

  • March 16th Nature Nut

Campers are encouraged to explore the great outdoors by starting their own nature collection.  Young naturalists are encouraged to create a journal of their finds.  Opportunities are also provided to examine natural treasures under the microscope.

  • March 17th – Wild for Wildlife

How do animals survive through different seasons?  What do their tracks and scat look like?  Wildlife detectives learn how to track some of our local fascinating furry friends.  Find out how they live and where they call home.

  • March 18th – Arts Across the Marsh

Cooper Marsh is a natural work of art so campers are invited to become inspired by the great outdoors.  Imagination and nature are mixed with a little paint, pencils, wood, photography, and inspiration in a day that celebrates arts and nature.
